The Kaiser insurance and healthcare organization is a constant presence in the local community, and with networks in nine U.S. states and Washington DC, there are many communities benefiting from their efforts. This can be evidenced by recent efforts by Kaiser Georgia to encourage fitness and activity for corporate employees. Another example is a current Kaiser Permanente Southern California campaign to encourage bone health. These programs are intended to do more than just treat sick patients; the goal is to improve the health of entire communities and promote stress prevention as a means to better health.
The 27th Annual Kaiser Georgia Corporate Run/Walk & Fitness Program is part of an overall effort to increase the health of community members so they can prevent illnesses and lead more productive lives altogether. There were 350 Atlanta companies that participated in the recent 5k that commemorated the completion of the program, which included thousands of local employees throughout the community. The Kaiser insurance and healthcare organization is proud to sponsor this program, as it is considered one of the largest workplace-organized corporate fitness events in the Southeast. Many of the companies that participate have been doing so for 15 or more years. The program is an eight-week course that includes group run/walk sessions and temporary gym memberships at various participating health clubs in the Atlanta metropolitan area, all completely free of charge.
Kaiser Southern California is encouraging a different kind of healthy activity in the local community. The organization is encouraging both men and women to take control of their bone health with exercise that helps to build bone mass, prevent osteoporosis, maintain balance, minimize falls and reduce the occurrence of bone fractures later in life. As part of a new campaign aimed at residents of all ages in the Southern California region, Kaiser has been distributing osteoporosis prevention tips for healthy bones at farmer?s markets and community events, which include activities and recipes.
The Kaiser insurance and healthcare organization believes that by promoting the health of the entire community, and not just the members of their plan, everyone benefits with a stronger local population.
